چکیده

The Interaction Region Vacuum System in the PEPII B-Factory at SLAC must produce average pressures in the 10 Torr range. Low beamline pressures will minimize the background radiation encountered by the BaBar Detector. A combination of copper and stainless steel vacuum chambers with continuous antechambers are used to make up the beam tubes. Linear Non-Evaporable Getter (NEG) pumps are used to produce distributed pumping along the length of these beam tubes. High conductance "microwave" type screens provide RF shields between the beam aperture and the NEG pumps. In this paper the design features of the beam tubes, NEG pumps, and RF pump screens are described and the vacuum and impedance analyses conducted in support of the design are discussed.

Status of the Pep–ii B-factory High Energy Ring*

The 9 GeV High Energy Ring (HER) of the PEP-II B Factory is an electron storage ring under construction at SLAC. Significant progress has been made in the last year on all systems. As of mid 1996, all 192 dipoles have been installed, with installation of the quadrupoles underway. The vacuum system, for design currents up to 3 A average, is in production using a recently commissioned e-beam weld...

HOM Heating at the PEP-II B-Factory IR Beryllium Vacuum Pipe

The higher-order-mode (HOM) heating of the central beryllium beam pipe in the PEP-II B-Factory interaction region is evaluated. Both single and multi-bunch effects are considered. While single-bunch heating is not an issue, resonant heating due to multiple bunch passages is found to be unacceptable. Modifying the IR configuration around the central pipe has been shown to alleviate this problem....

Analysis of the Wake Field Effects in the Pep-ii Slac B- Factory*

We present the history and analysis of different wake field effects throughout the operational life of the PEP-II SLAC B-factory. Although the impedance of the high and low energy rings is small, the intense high current beams generated a lot of power. The effects from these wake fields are: heating and damage of vacuum beam chamber elements like RF seals, vacuum valves , shielded bellows, BPM ...

Pep-ii Status and Future Plans*

The PEP-II B-Factory at SLAC has reached a luminosity of 4.6x10/cm/s and has delivered 94 fb of data to the BaBar physics detector by the end of May 2002. PEP-II has delivered over 309 pb in 24 hours and over 6.35 fb in one month. The accelerator physics issues for these performance levels include electron cloud, beam-beam effects, parasitic beam-beam collisions, and RF beam loading. Upgrades t...

Calibration of the Beam-Position Monitor System for the SLAC PEP-II B Factory

The Beam-Position Monitors (BPM) for the PEP-II B Factory consist of four 1.5cm diameter button style pickups mounted on the diagonals of the quadrupole vacuum chambers. Before installation of the vacuum chambers in the quadrupole assemblies, the electrical center of the BPMs is measured with respect to the mechanical center in a calibration test stand. In this paper the calibrations test stand...
